I wanted to finish this piece before Christmas, so I really hurried to shape the figures. I wanted a simple realistic look, while at the same time conveying love. The week before Christmas break, I actually took the Mary and Joseph home , then after I finished them I brought them back to the school on a teacher workday. I had a sinking feeling something was going to go wrong, but thankfully they didn't smush in the transportation.
The pieces were fired and then I started glazing. It was really hard for me to decide on the colors because I wanted it to be perfect. A few days before Christmas break, I finished painting the glaze on. My teacher fired the pieces and they turned out BEAUTIFULLY---but there was one problem. She explained it to me in three words, "I forgot Jesus." Two days before the break the baby was fired and I got to take the complete nativity home.
Next time, don't forget Jesus.
