We created these cranes by folding large sheets of paper. The largest crane is made of 9 huge sheets taped together then folded. First, we made a lot of cranes. Then we brainstormed what to do with all the pieces. We decided to try to make three different V-Shaped flocks in the front lobby of the school. The way this piece actually came together was different than what we had on the drawing board. We sorted flocks and strung them together, but the next day one was too tangled to even try to unravel. So we had two flocks we concentrated on putting up. We put up one medium flock, then we put up the biggest bird's flock and one of the strings snapped. Now, it looks like on giant flock and a line of birds heading a different way.
I learned that as you run into problems, with installation you adapt your piece to the space as you go. The way we planned was different than the way it turned out.
